Visual Data Displays and Uses in Decision Making

Visual Data Displays and Uses in Decision Making Ronya Bentz, Lasondra Defreeze, Terri Dougherty, Grace Zhao HCS/438 September 24, 2012 Gerald Rintals Visual Data Displays and Uses in Decision Making Studying the measures of central tendency will help to verify if these measures of central tendency for the given data are correct. The information will assist in predicting specific health issues and interventions needed to improve health care. The measure of variation produces a conclusion through the Tele-care monitoring system. The types of central tendency conducted in this study were the mean and median. The description of data in this study uses the five-number summary. Variables were also used to predict key medical events and interventions, based on significance. According to Biddiss, Brownsell, Hawley (2009), â€Å"the data analysis was conducted using statistical software and logistic regression was used to predict the occurrence of key medical events/interventions taken from health care logs of health-care workers. Biddiss, Brownsell, Hawley 2009’s articles explain examples in the text are as follows: The 45 patients studied a total of 8576 alerts were generated. A total of 171 medical events which included the mean number of medical events for the year which was 3. 5, the median 2, and the quartile ranged between 1- 4. The mean average of key alerts per year was 49, with a median of 49, and an interquartile range of 47-51. The average percentage of total alerts that were medical events was 6. 4% with a median of 4 and an interquartile range of 1. 4-8 (p. 227-228).Because the focus of the study determined the average need for medical intervention in congestive heart failure, the use of the measure of central tendency is correct in this study. According to Bennett, Briggs, & Thiola, (2009), â€Å"variation is a measure of how much the data values are spread out. A distribution in which most data are clustered together has a low variation. † (p. 16). In the article, â€Å"predicting need for intervention in individuals with congestive heart failure using a home-based Tele-care monitoring system for 18 months† (Biddiss, Brownsell, & Hawley, 2009, p. 9); the authors monitored 45 elderly individuals with congestive heart failure who entered daily information, based of individual symptoms and health status. There are 14 variables to enter and generate the alert system. Systolic blood pressure| 2541| Heart rate| 1822| Daytime shortness of breath| 803| Need for extra pillows| 576| Night time shortness of breath| 480| Cough| 441| Weight gain| 422| Bloated stomach | 387| Dizziness| 339| Medication adherence| 327| Swollen ankles| 248| Angina| 191| Anxiety| 10| Urine excretion| Eight total alerts 8576| Biddiss, Brownsell, & Hawley, 2009, p. 29). As the data describes, the systolic blood pressure most triggered the alert system. It produced nearly 30% of the total alerts and the heart rate almost 9%. †¢Average of aler ts for 14 characteristics: 612 †¢Median: 405 †¢Distribution is right –skewed because the values are more spread to the right side. The graphing of a bell curve is the representation of the standard normal distribution. Also the table shows the mean value is zero and the standard deviation is one (Bennett, Briggs, & Triola, 2009).In Figure 2 of the study, the values are not depicted by normal distribution as they deviate greatly from the mean. This shows there is no symmetry in the values represented and displays too many variables. Because the study is measuring various variables not necessarily related to one another, it would follow that standard normal distribution would not apply in this study. The results of this study show factors of individuals who took part reported different symptoms and clinicians monitoring these concerns had determined if medical intervention was necessary.Heart rate, blood pressure, and weight were also considered and compared with the data reported by the participants. Because the study relied heavily on self-reporting by the participants, many of the variables were subject to embellishment. The clinical data supports reports of declining health, but in some cases may not correlate with information reported. The conclusions of the study are favorable, as increased monitoring of patients with chronic heart failure may result in occasional interventions that are not neccessary. This study provides an improvement in the knowledge of the patient’s condition and reaction to treatment. In addition, a syllabus encompasses the assignments to be handed out, the strategies recommended for teaching, and the goals to be achieved at the end of the course. A content outline is almost similar to a curriculum. Given that teaching consists of content coverage, which is clearly sketched out in the curriculum, then they a content outline and a curriculum are synonymous in the definition and execution. Standards are often used to describe what the students should be able to do by the time they are done with a particular course. In some cases, the standards also describe the processes aimed towards attaining the present learning outcomes. They prioritize all the ideas that are elemental to the discipline. These are the instructional materials used as a guide for classroom materials. They normally comprise of the instructional materials that are relevant to that particular level of the learning process. It is essential that instructional materials are standardized (Pinar, 2013). Finance questions - Speech or Presentation Example Other considerations include the frequency of single drills, as well as the number of drill session per week. The session should begin by crosschecking the safety consideration. Players should be free and well rested. They should be free of injuries in the limbs and arms that require exercising (Mcardle, 2000). After successful safety considerations, the session should proceed with a warm up. Begin by combining dynamic and static warm to achieve all desirable results (Mcardle, 2000). Players should do begin by slight running, going around the court two times, making a few stretching and jogging and Plyometric jumps. Warm up serves two functions. First, it prepares muscles for the explosive plyometrics. Secondly, it is one of the first stages of acquainting with plyometrics, especially for the novice (Taylor & Beashel, 1996). This training entails dropping on grounds from an upper surface, followed by a jump-up. A drop-down during the eccentric phase offers the muscles the pre-stretch, as well as a vigorous upward drive during the contraction phase. The effectiveness of the exercise is only effective if the time that the feet touch the ground is short. The exercise loading is determined by the dropping height, which should be about 0.7 to 1.1 meters (Taylor & Beashel, 1997). Three sets of jumps should be performed, each with 10 repetitions. In bounding, oversized strides are employed for the running action while time is spent in the air. Bound that involve two legs minimize the endured impact. The intensity may be increased by hopping or even single-leg bounding. Upstairs’ bounding improves the horizontal of movement. Three sets bounding and hurdling should be performed, each with 10 repetitions. Hand claps and press ups, done in alterations, is one way in which the chest and the arms can be conditioned. Pre-stretch occurs as the hands swing back to the ground and as the chest sinks. This

Human Resource Management Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Human Resource Management - Research Paper Example Introduction Before going into the discussion regarding compensation and benefits, which is one of the most specialized parts of the human resource management, let us get a better understanding of the importance of a well-structured compensation plan in maintaining a productive workforce. A compensation plan is a set of those rewards, remuneration, and benefits, which are provided to the employees by the HR department of the company in order to increase employee productivity. Compensation plans not only help the companies retain skilled employees but also assist HR staff in recruitment processes. Obringer (n.d.) asserts, â€Å"To make your company competitive and attractive to job candidates, you have to offer an exceptional total benefits package†. The thesis statement for this paper is, â€Å"Why is it important for a company to offer a well-structured compensation plan to its employees?† Importance of Compensation Plans Compensation and benefits play an important rol e in making a company achieve increased employee productivity. A well-structured compensation plan is one of the key motivating forces behind increased productivity. If human resource department of a company offers a competitive compensation plan to the employees as a reward for their individual performances, the employees become motivated and they put their efforts to do more for their company. Employee efficiency and organizational productivity depend directly on the types of compensation that are offered to the employees by the company. It is a common fact that the employees like to work for such companies, which give value to the employees’ needs and demands by offering them attractive compensation plans. Keimig (2008) asserts, â€Å"Generous benefit packages (especially those with an emphasis on health insurance and retirement savings) tend to attract employees who are looking for long-term, stable positions†. A well-structured compensation plan needs various fact ors to be considered during development, which include type of the compensation plan, conditions for plan implementation, payment calculation method, culture of the organization, and practicalities of the compensation plan. Some of the main reasons behind the need to design and implement a well-structured compensation plan include increasing employees’ moral, ensuring internal and external equity, reducing the turnover, encouraging employees’ performance and productivity, increasing employees’ loyalty, hiring and retaining skilled staff, and making the employees satisfied with their jobs. Dalton (n.d.) states, â€Å"The employee's family can also receive benefits, should the employee die as a result of the injuries or illness sustained at the company†. Another reason for implementing an appropriate compensation plan is to succeed in today’s competitive markets. It is the 21st century and the level of competition between the companies has reached it s heights. Implementation of compensation plans play a valuable role in making the companies excels in the markets. Therefore, it is extremely important for the companies to hire and retain skilled employees in order to get competitive edge over the competitors. Why Is It Necessary To Have A Compensation Plan? It is very necessary for a company to implement a compensation plan because it increases productivity of the workforce. We can hardly find any employee who is not interested in getting higher pays and

Choose a business function (e.g. marketing HR finance) and outline and Essay - 1

Choose a business function (e.g. marketing HR finance) and outline and discuss the changing nature of work and employment in thi - Essay Example The project tries to explore the key influential factors resulting in such changes with emphasis on the challenges faced by the human resource management departments on organizations. External Factors influencing the changing nature of human resource management practices Few of the major factors that have been undergoing dramatic changes in the global scenario have been increasingly posing threat towards organizations. Consequently their business needs have also undergone changes. Technological factors, the economic challenges, and changes in the local and governmental issues are some of the key factors worth mentioning in this context. Workforce diversities, unions and political factors have also been responsible towards changing the human resource management practices in organizations. Predominantly the organization structure and culture has demonstrated changes. Globalization has generated different forms of human resource management functions in the global competitive environment . Firms which have been competing in the global competitive environment have been facing with numerous new demands on their people and their organizations. They also seem to be pushed into different and contradictory directions. In response to this, new global organizing paradigms are concentrated on the complementarities, and not on the trade-offs, on management processes, not on the organizational structures and procedures. It demonstrates a shift away from the static and traditional solutions to the global business challenges towards the acceptance of global organizations as being an evolving and dynamic network (Pucik, â€Å"Human Resources: An Obstacle to Globalization?†). The changing economic environment has also driven changes in the human resource management practices in firms. With the increasing significance and presence of the MNCs as being crucial players of the global economy, there has also been an increasing interest on the concept of international human resou rce management of these MNCs. In spite of the growing importance of this IHRM as being one of the most innovative sources of competitive advantage, there has been very little research on ways to manage the globally dispersed mass of employees belonging to the MNCs effectively. A number of studies have been conducted by the application of greater theory driven conceptual frameworks, for better understanding of the multinational corporations and the international human resources management practices undertaken in them. Following are some of the findings from the results. Firstly the general result that followed is that the human resource management practices remain localized to reflect the differences in the cultural and regulatory environments between the host and the home countries. This primarily throws light on the fact that these multinational organizations require modifying their parent human resource management practices in the overseas subsidiaries in order to achieve a degree of isomorphism with the environmental institutions of the host countries (Kim & Gray, â€Å"Summary, limitations and suggestions for further research†). Recently organizations are also faced with the growing challenge of confronting and managing workforce diversities. The shifting business realities and the social and demographic changes have increased the workforce diversi

Speculations with the most steady proof are embraced however may keep on evolving, because new confirmation. Teachers in science are sorted in light of the piece of the universe they examine space sciences, earth sciences, life sciences, science, and material science. For instance, the life sciences concentrate the living scene, for example, plants or the human body; disciplines incorporate nature, hereditary qualities, neuroscience, pathology, and sustenance. Innovation Technology specialists utilize science and designing to make and investigate PC and data frameworks. For instance, some tech laborers create programming applications and construct and keep up PC systems and databases. STEM Output Innovation work interfaces individuals, making all types of correspondence including business exchanges, video sharing, and portable perusing speedier and less costly. The work frequently includes outlining, testing, keeping up, and enhancing PC programming, equipment, frameworks, and systems. Have you considered how regularly we encounter STEM in our lives? Science is our current world-sun, moon, and stars grounds and seas climate, catastrophic events, the differing qualities of nature, creatures expensive, little, microbial plants and sustenance the fuel that warms our homes and powers transportation. The rundown is practically unending. In this day and age, innovation implies PCs and cell phones, yet it backpedals to TV, radio, magnifying lens, broadcast, telescopes, the compass, and even the main wheel. Yes, designing outlines structures, streets, and scaffolds, yet it likewise handles todays difficulties of transportation, an unnatural weather change and condition amicable machi nes, apparatuses, and frameworks. We just need to glance around to perceive what upgrades to our lives and our homes have been built in the most recent decade alone. We experience arithmetic at the market, the bank, on tax documents, in managing ventures and the family spending plan. Each and every other STEM field relies on upon science. STEM is vital because it plagues each part of our lives. How about we consider how STEM impacts what is nearest and dearest to us our kids. STEM is their future the innovative age in which they live, their best profession choices, and their key to intelligent decisions. U.S Departments stand on STEM In 2009, the United States Department of Labor recorded the ten most needed workers. Eight of those workers were ones with degrees in the STEM fields bookkeeping, software engineering, electrical building, mechanical designing, data sciences and frameworks, PC building, structural designing, and financial matters and back. (Labor, 2009) As indicated by the U. S. Bureau of Commerce, STEM occupations are developing at 17%, while others are developing at 9.8%. Social insurance specialists with partner degrees to specialists of prescription will healthy 20% more in lifetime income than associates with comparable levels in non-medicinal services. A look at 2010 beginning pay rates for designers with $47,145 for structural architects to $60,054 for synthetic specialists is solid proof that STEM-related employments can be fiscally remunerating professions for our kids. (Commerce, 2010) Whether you realize it or not, S.T.E.M. is part of your day to day life. I cant put it any more eloquently than Rosalind Franklin, the English chemist who made contributions to the understanding of the molecular structures of DNA, RNA, viruses, coal, and graphite. You look at science or at least talk of it as some sort of demoralizing invention of man, something apart from real life, and which must be cautiously guarded and kept separate from everyday existence. But science and everyday life cannot and should not be separated. Science, for me, gives a partial explanation of life. In so far as it goes, it is based on fact, experience and experimentà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ In my view, all that is necessary for faith is the belief that by doing our best we shall come nearer to success and that success in our aims (the improvement of the lot of mankind, present and future) is worth attaining. (Franklin, 2016) Science instruction has been a disputable subject among bosses and schools for a considerable length of time. Managers are asking for more STEM graduates yet the schools cant stay aware of the rising interest. Unemployment rates keep on going up while positions in the science, innovation, and building fields have stayed open and unfulfilled. STEM training is fundamental to the position of the United States on the planet standings in STEM research and outline. As of now 3 of the 5 beat positions in STEM research are held by Asian nations and tragically the United States doesnt fall in the main 10 for the rundown. There was at one time a period when the United States drove the world in STEM inquire about, however circumstances are different and now the United States is trailing numerous different nations in logical advancement. Numerous U.S. natives are unconscious of the present condition of the STEM instruction framework and they frequently boast about statuses that the united States do not hold anymore. Teachers and organizations are collaborating to build STEM enthusiasm for school-matured youngsters and youths. It is their trust that their endeavors will expand the measure of secondary school graduates entering degree looking for projects in the STEM fields. A few endeavors are sketched out in this paper alongside their victories and disappointments. The interest for STEM graduates is amazing, yet with just six percent of secondary school graduates entering and finishing four year certifications in the STEM handle, the request is not being met. Benefits of STEM According to the U. S. Labor Department, the 10 fastest growing occupations) from 2008-2018, and their median wages are Biomedical engineers, $77,400 Network systems and data communications analysts, $71,100 Home health aides, $20,460 Personal and home care aides, $19,180 Financial examiners, $70,930 Medical scientists, except epidemiologists, $72,590 Physician assistants, $81,230 Skin care specialists, $28,730 Biochemists and biophysicists, $82,840 Athletic trainers, $39,640 (Labor, 2009) Look at other countries, and there are a lot of other countries that have done a better job with STEM subjects at the educational policy level. STEM should be more of a priority, but things are changing. The last two presidential administrations have made it STEM a priority, which is not true for administrations in the past, James Brown, executive director of STEM Education Coalition, told FoxNews.com. Education laws change slowly, and change goes both upwards from local school districts up to state and federal government and downwards to people like principals and superintendents. Brown said that working for STEM Education Coalition a large nonprofit affiliated with more than 500 member organizations that aims to lobby for increased governmental awareness and support for STEM education has given him a front-row seat to the continued movement to effect change in schools nationwide. He added that STEM is integral to giving students an edge in the economy upon graduating high school and college. The economy is changing with an emphasis on technology skills across all sectors. The emphasis now is that not all STEM jobs require four-year degrees. When I was growing up, you had what were called blue collar jobs, now you have technicians who need to be highly skilled in tech. You need people who can repair MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) machines, or work on electric cars, Brown said. You now need technicians who need to have really hard STEM skills. Thats a skill set that will be growing over the next five years, it will be more in demand, and giving students the foundation for those kinds of careers starts in school. (Mastroianni, 2015). STEM can have diverse intending to various individuals. STEM in advanced education is relatively direct. An understudy enlisted in a STEM related program, other than educator training, is in a remain solitary STEM field. For instance, if an understudy is majoring sub-atomic science, they will enter the STEM workforce as a researcher. They could be presented to innovation, designing or arithmetic that particularly relates to their field. However, chances are they will be uncovered somehow shape or frame. In this manner, coordination regarding STEM might happen; nonetheless, it must be noted they are inside a STEM field. This is not the situation with instructor training. Consider a High School Science Teacher that just shows science, however, does not coordinate innovation, building or math into their educational programs or that dont team up with other STEM staff. In spite of the fact that this instructor is in a STEM field the way that they dont coordinate or work together makes them only a science educator, not a STEM teacher. This valid with all instructors with the STEM field who show k-12 training. A few commentators stress that more science and innovation implies less writing and craftsmanship. Alternately that understudies creative impulses are being smothered, others worry about a lot of screen time particularly for more active children and about compounding an advanced partition between understudies from low-pay homes and their more productive associates. STEM supporters counter that quality STEM programs depend on all the customary school branches of knowledge, and that STEM urges understudies to think more innovatively than in conventional classrooms since substitutes are regularly making something amid the day. With respect to screen time, a few teachers in the STEM schools we went by voiced a comparable concern and said they were finding a way to test gadget utilization. In the interim, the government, establishments and organizations have given huge entireties of money and innovation to schools in an offer to address the tech separate Conclusion Better arrangement of science (STEM) programs, instructional practices, and understudy backings is required in foundations to address the issues of the populaces they serve. Programming and approaches that address the atmosphere of STEM divisions and classrooms, the accessibility of instructional backings and true STEM encounters, and the usage of powerful showing rehearses together can help understudies conquer key obstructions to winning a STEM degree, including time to degree and the cost of a STEM degree. Story Of Anne Moody :: essays research papers

In America, the fortie s and fifties was a time of racism and racial segregation. The Declaration of Independence states â€Å"all men are created equal† and America is viewed as the land of equal opportunity. However, blacks soon found the lack of truth in these statements; and with the Montgomery bus boycott marking the beginning of retaliation, the civil rights movement will grow during the mid – sixties. In the autobiography, Coming of Age in Mississippi, Anne Moody describes the environment, the thoughts, and the actions that formed her life while growing up in the segregated southern state of Mississippi. As a young child, Moody accepted society as the way it was and did not see a difference in the skin color of a white person as opposed to that of a black. It was not until a movie incident did she begin to realize that the color of her skin made her inferior. â€Å"Their whiteness provided them with a pass to downstairs in that nice section and my blackness sent me to the balcony. Now that I was thinking about it, their schools, homes, and streets were better than mine.† Soon after Moody entered high school, Emmett Till, a fourteen-year-old boy from Chicago, was killed for whistling at a white woman. â€Å"Emmett Till’s murder had proved it was a crime, punishable by death, for a Negro man to even whistle at a white woman in Mississippi.† Although her mother refused to give an explanation of the organization, Moody learned about the NAACP from one of her teachers soon after the incident. It was at age fifteen that Moody really began to hate people. Not only did she hate the whites that committed the murders, but she also hated the blacks for allowing the horrid actions to occur. When there were rumors about black men having sexual relationships with white women, Negro men became afraid even to walk the streets. One of Moody’s high school classmates, Jerry, was beaten after being accused of making telephone calls to a white operator with threats of molesting her. Even more tragic was the Taplin fire. A whole family was burned in the Taplin family home and although the police tried to blame it on a kerosene lamp, the blacks knew it was purposely started with gasoline. To get away from all the horrifying things going on in her town, Moody leaves to stay with family members in Baton Rouge.

Tibetan Women Under Chinese Occupation :: Asian History China Research Papers

Tibetan Women Under Chinese Occupation Prior to the Chinese occupation of Tibet in 1959, Tibetan women were treated with the utmost respect. They served as equals to men, nothing less and in some instances even more. However, since the Chinese have occupied Tibet the status of Tibetan women in the country has changed. Women’s basic human rights are violated every day under the Chinese, rights such as reproduction and education. They face violence and coercion and must live their lives in an entirely new way. Women in Tibet prior to the Chinese takeover had a very high social status. They played very active roles in the family as well as in society as a whole. Women were warriors, princesses, leaders, mothers, traders, and business women. There was no sense of a woman being inferior to men in society nor was there a need for women to be limited in what they were supposed to do. Tibetans practiced an egalitarian way of living. Polyandry was an acceptable practice as was divorce and remarriage (especially by widows). It is made clear, however, that the practice of polyandry was restricted. The woman would marry her husband and all of his younger brothers were included as shared husbands. Women were not subjected to pay a dowry; in fact it was quite the opposite. â€Å"Apart from rich widows or women whom the generosity of their lovers has provided with enviable possessions, no Tibetan woman need fear that she is being asked in marriage for the sake of her money; for, instead of receiving a dowry, the fiancà © has to pay a sum, termed nu rin, as suitable compensation for the trouble and money her parents have expended in bringing up their child, who is now going to be taken from them to profit of another family.† (David-Neel, 178) Marriage seemed to be a place where women gained some ground. They and their families played a large role in the marriage process and had the dominating hand. In most cases the parents have the final say in who their daughter marries, but a woman has the option of divorce though it is not easy.

Wal Mart Case Study Essay -- essays research papers

Wal Mart Case Study It opened in 1962 by Sam Walton, Wal-Mart has become the largest retailer in the United States, and with over 3,300 stores Wal-Mart continues to be successful. Under his successor, CEO David Glass, the small discount store chain started in Arkansas has become one of the largest corporations in the world. David Glass lays out the philosophy: â€Å"we approach this new and exciting decade of the 90’s much as we did in the 80’s focusing on only two main objectives, (1) providing the customers with what they want, when they want it, all at value, and (2) treating each other as we would hope to be treated, acknowledging our total dependency on our associate-partners to sustain our success.† This statement by Glass shows that Wal-Mart has devised a plan in order to maintain its high ranking in the retail business. The question becomes, can Wal-Mart continue to expand and succeed in an increasingly hostile retail environment? I will discuss the external stakeholders? 2) Do a SWOT analysis of Wal-Mart. What are the company’s distinctive competencies? 3) How would you describe Wal-Mart’s â€Å"Grand† strategy for the next decade? In terms of Porter’s generic strategies? Stakeholders are the persons, groups, and institutions directly affected by an organization’s performance. Some external stakeholders for Wal-Mart include the following: 1) Customers: specific consumer or client’s groups, individual, and organization’s goods and/or use its services. All Market Research include new market research report â€Å"http://www.allmarketresearch.com/wiki/china-activated-carbon-industry-report-2013-2015.php† to its huge collection of research reports. All Market Research announces that a new market research report is available in its catalogue:â€Å"http://www.allmarketresearch.com/wiki/china-activated-carbon-industry-report-2013-2015.php† . In recent years, China has seen a growing surge in terms of the production and demand of activated carbon with the export proportion ever declining, on account of intensifying environmental-friendly policies in China as well as accelerated trade protectionism carried out by European and American countries. In 2012, China’s production of activated carbon sustained upward mobility, with the output growing by 5.4% year-on-year to 521,100 tons; and the domestic demand surged by 13.5% year-on-year to 303,000 tons, while the export volume slightly decreased by 3.6% year-on-year to 232,500 tons, with the proportion in output dropping to 48.8%. The estimation shows that the production and consumption of activated carbon in China will grow in a steady way till 2015, with the respective targeted figure realizing 754,000 tons and 448,000 tons. To Have a Copy:http://www.allmarketresearch.com/wiki/china-activated-carbon-industry-report-2013-2015.php In China, the production of activated carbon concentrates in regions abundant in coal resources such as Shanxi and Ningxia. In 2012, enterprises with the annual capacity exceeding 50,000 tons included Ningxia Huahui Activated Carbon Company Limited and Shenhua Ningxia Coal Industry Group. In addition, other coal tycoons also spread their wings towards activated carbon field. A case in point was Datong Coal Mine Group, which started its 100,000 tons/a coal-based activated carbon project in June 2012 with total investment of RMB1.17 billion. Once finished, the expected sales will harvest RMB760 million annually. Wooden activated carbon enterprises in China are largely located in Fujian, Jiangxi, Zhejiang and Jiangsu. Moreover, enterprises with the annual capacity of wooden activated carbon surpassing 20,000 tons consisted of Zhixing Activated Carbon, Xinsen Carbon Corp., Ltd, etc.

Extemporaneous speech outline and speech with Cosplay as topic Essay

Specific Speech Purpose: To share to my audience about the cosplay scene in the Philippines and answer inquiries in their minds about cosplay. Statement: Cosplay’s popularity growth is fast and there are lot of questions in the mind of people about cosplay. It’s meaning and reason varies from person to person and there are negativities to it. Introduction Attention Step: â€Å"Cosplay. I know a lot of you have in mind, what is it with cosplay? What do people get from wearing costumes like this and cosplaying? Well, congratulations because today, I give you a mini-introduction to cosplaying which involves it’s meaning, reasons why we cosplay, and the negativities to it.† Clarification Step: â€Å"The reason I chose this topic is that if I have anything to talk about which I know so much about, it’s cosplaying. It’s something that everyone knows I do and something I’ll be confident enough to talk about. Now, if you’ll ask about the credibility of what I’m going to say, I’ve been cosplaying for 5 years and if that’s not long enough to know a lot about cosplaying, I don’t know what length will. As a proof, here’s a compilation of my past cosplays since the year 2008 up to present. But before I move on, I’d like to remind everyone that everything I’m about to say is purely based on my own opinions, observations, and perspective. â€Å" Body I. The meaning of cosplay varies from person to person. â€Å" Now, cosplay. What does it mean when you say cosplay? Well, the meaning of cosplay varies from person to person. Since the latest boom of cosplay , many people have had their own notion of what cosplay means. A. The literal meaning of cosplay is costume play. â€Å"But, its literal meaning is costume play, thus the term cosplay. It is the process of acting out your character and showing to people who it is. This maybe by posing, saying a few lines, doing a catwalk, and much more. Unfortunately, to those who are newly exposed to the hobby, they define cosplay as simply as wearing a costume and that’s it. Cosplay! What they didn’t know is that there is a term for that which cosplayers call ‘costrip’. So, there are common misconceptions about the difference between  cosplaying and costripping. In cosplay, since you act out the character, you do it in an event, competition, you join a contest, promote a booth, or program with a specific purpose. While costripping, basically from the word costume + trip but not strip, you just do it because you want to. When you go to a convention, you don’t exactly have to join these competitions, you may opt to stick outside wearing a costume til some people may just want to take a picture of you.† B. Some others perceive cosplay as â€Å"cost-play†. â€Å"Basically because it can be very costly and take up much of your money. A simple costume could range around 500php and those more intricate ones like these range around 20-30 thousand. Of course, that would include the labor and materials.† C. People may do cosplay for a cause thus the term â€Å"cause-play† â€Å"Lastly, some people thinks cosplayers cosplay for a cause thus they term it causeplay. Some events would use cosplay as their main attraction and use it to raise funds, or ask for donations for those that may need it.† II. People have various reasons why they cosplay. â€Å"Now, let’s try to answer some of those questions in mind. Why do people cosplay? What do they get from it? Well, here are the following reasons† A. It is an outlet or a channel of self expression especially for otakus to show their love for an anime, game, or whatever or whoever they are trying to portray. â€Å"First, it is an outlet or a channel of self expression especially for otakus to show their love for an anime, game, or whatever or whoever they are trying to portray. As for me, my love for anime started with the influence of my brother during our childhood which I carried on until I discovered the wonderful world of cosplay. By then, through cosplaying, I show my love for anime. B. Cosplaying gives them a sense of identity which in turn boosts up confidence and self-esteem. â€Å"Second, cosplaying gives a sense of identity. Back in high school, and until now, I’m known by my classmates and friends as the only one who cosplays in our class. Somehow it gives me the identity of â€Å"hey, she’s the cosplayer girl from this block† and it becomes a sort of label to me. And sometimes, this ‘label’ boost up my confidence and self esteem because of my uniqueness in  that way, knowing I can do stuffs people don’t normally do. C. Cosplay gives fun and excitement to people, making it become a hobby for some. â€Å"The third reason for cosplaying is that it gives fun and excitement to people, and some of them make it a hobby. Back at my first exposure to a cosplay convention, I was amazed at how the characters that I was just watching at tv, are actually in front of me in real life, I’m like â€Å"Woooaaahh cool!† and so I became interested in cosplaying. Plus, when you really like, or even love something, you really enjoy what you’re doing and you’re excited about it. D. Going to cosplay conventions or events becomes a form of relaxation and â€Å"detox† for them during their free time. â€Å"The fourth reason why some people cosplay or go to conventions is that it makes them feel relaxed, especially when they’re enjoying, and this somehow becomes their detox actvity during their free time. I mean, going out of those tiring school stuffs, or even work, because cosplay is not limited to teenagers only, and rather than staying home, they unstress themselves by going to events. E. The community serves as a way to meet new people, friends, or â€Å"that special someone†. â€Å"Fifth reason, it serves as a way to meet a lot of new people or friends, and sometimes, that special someone. This here, is loki heart, she has been cosplaying over 8 years now and she met her boyfriend through an online game and cosplay convention. Now, they’re married. Who knows? Maybe you could meet your special someone through cosplaying too. F. Some people cosplay for the prize they aim or for the benefit of it like as a source of income or for promotion, and sometimes, just forced to. â€Å"As of now, I don’t really cosplay anymore as a hobby. After several years of cosplaying, events began to seem all the same and boring to me plus I became busy at school works so I don’t really find that much time to cosplay anymore. Some people see me at conventions but that’s only because it’s my part time job wherein I promote the online game Dragon Nest through cosplaying. Having rakets like this or having your costumes rented out can be a good source of income or help for my financial needs as a student. Plus  it feels fulfilling since I don’t really ask money from my parents anymore for small expenses I can handle, in turn, I help them in that way, and also, myself.† There are many negative sides to cosplaying or its community. â€Å"But, If you think cosplaying is all fun and stuff, well you’re all wrong because there are negative sides to it too. A. A lot of people get criticized or bashed, especially when they act or look weird. â€Å"The main negativity to it is that a lot of people get criticized or bashed, especially when they act or look weird. People just always have something to say about other people. Some would criticize your costume for not being accurate, that it doesn’t fit you, laugh at you because you look stupid, or just basically because they hate you. Some would bash you because you cosplay a character you don’t know anything about. And some just, thinks you’re weird because it’s all something new or different for them. I dhad this experience once back in high school when my teacher saw me and told me in the exact manner I am going to do it now, ‘adrish, ang weird mo’, then i’m like, uuhh ok is that a compliment or not?, but thank u XD† B. Issues are everywhere, especially when you’re famous. â€Å"Next negativity is that issues are everywhere, especially when you’re famous. Here are pictures of people who have one thing in common. They’re famous, and often constantly given issues maybe because others are insecure about them or just couldn’t stand their presence.† C. Parents and some others think it’s a waste of money, time, and energy. â€Å"Third, One thing about parents, they want what’s best for their children. And that is in terms of studies or things they perceive as good. Other hobbies as costly as cosplaying would look like a waste of money and time to them, thinking that children devote their time to studies rather than these. D. There are people who will try to take advantage of you. â€Å"Lastly, there are always people who will try to take advantage of you. One thing female cosplayers would always be warned about are those pervert photographers who try to get the most out of you. If you know what I mean. Or people who would try to ask to take a pic with you, just to get the opportunity to hold you on the side, sometimes at the butt, or suddenly hug  you. Of course, you just have to be mindful and alert to these, and of course, speak out when you are being harassed.† Conclusion Summary Step: â€Å"Anyone can cosplay if they want to. You just have to put in mind the reason you are cosplaying or why you want to and stick to it. †

Biography of James Wilson

We are in this world for about 5000 years or more than it. During this period of time, the world has produced many intellectuals, philosophers, musicians, poets and many other professionals. The famous ones left this world, but they leave their accomplishments behind, through which we could produce, some more and brilliant intellectuals of the current age. Intellectualism depends on the inner talent of a person. No one in this world is absolute.Everybody has talent in it; however, some possibly find their inner talent and became famous, while some only keep finding their talent but when discouraged, they leave the struggle to be something in this world. The famous people of the past ages have many discoveries that led to their fame and popularity. This was the beginning of the discoveries of mankind. The ones who used their brain for intellectual and innovative purposes succeeded in turning their dreams into a reality, while some who did not even manage to keep constant check on the discoveries, failed to recover their talent and so their names were swollen by the pages of history.Their names have been lost in the black, white and grayish shades of history. History repeats itself in every form. The way may be different, the idea or the people may be different but history repeats itself in every kind. When a human is welcomed into this world, he has nothing in his hands except a wonderful brain. This brain leads him to victory and defeat. When he comes into the world, he is well known through his brain and talent. Man has always come empty-handed and he leaves too empty-handed. We always discover in this world, because before birth or after death there is nothing.Whatever, whenever we have to do, we do in this world and left our name behind. This is an introduction for the victories and intellectuals of our age. If these would not have used their brains, we would not be able to use or know the technologies. Without the struggle of intellectuals, we would be limi ted under restricted lines, which would always be a wall between our personality and talent. Every country or state has its own constitutional and political history every country in this world fought for independence and some are fighting still now.Every fighting country has brave people with it but it still wants someone to motivate or encourage its people so that it would be easy for them to face circumstances and to remain united. We have many examples of these motivators such as Fidel Castro, M. A Jinnah, Mahatma Gandhi, Hasan Nasrullah and many more freedom fighters that fought until their last breath and gave their people a free and own homeland to live on it. These freedom fighters include an old but a polished name of history, James Wilson, who fought for the independence of Pennsylvania through his talent skills and constitutional experience. The man who succeeded in making a revolution in the minds of American colonists, for Pennsylvania, was James Wilson. He was born in Sc otland on September the 14th, 1742. There is no idea of his primary education, but in Scotland he attended the Universities of St. Andrews, Glasgow and Edinburgh, but did not attain a degree. He did not complete his studies, but soon became a tutor in the College of Philadelphia, from where he received an honorary Masters degree. He was very keenly interested in Law, and in 1767 he was admitted to the bar.He started his Reading practice in 1768 and through his eagerness in this field; he soon became a successful lawyer. By that time he handled nearly half of the country court’s cases. In this period of years, one was the year when he married Rachel Bird. The professional work of James Wilson belonged to the law practices. In 1767 he was admitted to the Bar and was recognized as a member of the Pennsylvania provincial meeting. In 1774 he was appointed to the Committee of Correspondence as well as in 1775 he was elected to the Provincial Congress. In the same year (1775), he was a Commissioned Colonel of the Fourth Cumberland County Battalion, and was also elected to the Continental Congress. He remained there from 1775-77. After three years of this job he became the Director of Bank of North America in the year 1781. Again after three years he became the member of the constitutional convention in the year 1784. His last job was an Associate Justice to the US Supreme Court that lasted between 1789 and 1798. The year 1798 was the last of his life. He died in August 28, 1798 while visiting a close friend.James Wilson’s only reason behind this struggle was to see independent Pennsylvania. He wrote many article, papers and published many pamphlets. He distributed his ideas and theory through the papers in demonstrations or public meetings. He told his speeches to many people. He diverted his ideas and his vision as far as he could. He always opposed ideas or policies, which were against Pennsylvania. Once, he wanted to oppose the constituents for their votes. He was just waiting for a good opportunity, but when the opportunity came, he did not oppose them.Everybody was shocked over this attitude of him, but there was a strategy behind his this act. James Wilson was a mastermind in the constitutional history of Pennsylvania. He was a leader in his field. He fought for the independence of his state. His work was strongly committed to the causes of nationalism. He was a brave and daring leader of his time. He fought for the independence until his last breath. He is still remembered as a great political personality in the world and an independent leader of the world. Here is a speech of this famous struggler and a true freedom fighter. This speech was prepared regarding the problems faced by the people of Pennsylvania. James Wilson, when received the honor to speech in front of his people, he did not even hesitated and told them everything about the current Pennsylvania situation. In the speech he told his people â€Å"The honor which has been given to him, he is thankful to those people for this favor as through this speech he would succeed in giving his views about the new constitution that has been submitted to the kind consideration of the United States. He said that it is a pleasant chance to lay down all the information of the constitution in front of the seniorities of the government. Firstly, he pointed out that the leading discrimination between the State and the United States government should be destroyed because in this way the people choose minorities to take decisions. In this way, there is no proper way of ruling in the country or state. Everyone claims to be a ruler and in this sort of government the people are distributed among many groups, which belong to their own leaders saying that this is the leader. While in a proper governmental system there is a proper way of everything. There are high-ups who make the decisions that what should be done in the country and what should done to curb the probl ems of citizens – by removing this discrimination among the governments. He described that we could make a good government, and people would also believe the government claims if trust worthy people are made the rulers. In this way, the legislature and the judiciary will work more efficiently. It would be better and easier to make decisions. People will be given a chance to vote the one of their choice but if the system of discrimination continues in the governments then it would be impossible to make better governments. He told the people that in this system we would enjoy the privileges that we want. He told the people that there should be a proper way of everything. There should be no separate ruling governments or if it continues then the state would be ruined. He told them not to act towards individualism but to do things which should take all the classes of the country or state together so that if in the future the government is doing wrong, we would be able to fight aga inst it. But if there would be individualism then the people would be distributed in factors and t would be a confusing matter for all to solve the tangled issues. He said that the power of media should be within people. They should be given the rights to say anything they dislike about the government. People should be given rights to participate in media activities such as participating in social and political activities. He said that the freedom of expression should be allowed so that all point of views of people should be listened and lastly a wise decision should be taken. Another objection that he pointed out in the new constitution was the abolishment in civil cases by the jury. He said that the government should be honest in all cases. It should not create differences between the lower and higher economic classes. If this practice continues then the people would be rendered towards individualism and they would be more eager to take decisions by their own. According to this cons titution the courts should not follow the philosophy of equality. In this regard if the people would be moving to the courts to appeal for justice, then the government high ups would register cases upon them and they would be behind the bars just for the sake of justice and equality. He said that all the case files should be closed when the whole court case is finished. It should not be like that by taking bribes the files should be closed and the officials have no records of it. He pressurized people to move to the City courts, when their appeal of justice is not fulfilled they should move to High Courts and if their result is also unsatisfactory then they should move to the Supreme Court. He said that all files of the criminal cases should be preserved for better records. He argued on the constitution by saying that the constitution speaks that in the time of peace the army should stand peacefully and watch the situation of the state or country. He gave examples and proved his fact s.He told the people that the other countries, have their armies activated either it is wartime or in the peace as well. He said that if the army of our country or state is de activated then the other countries would know our intentions and through the slow motion of our country’s army in future we can also be governed by another country. Army of the country should be activated either it is war or peace. Their duty is to protect the borders and prevent any danger from the enemy countries. But if in the peace time they all go to their homes and take rest then who will take care of the borders? In this way the wrong intentions of the enemies will be planned strategically and we would be informed at the eleventh hour, when there would be no chances of saving the nation from the enemies. If the army would be de activated then who will take care of the borders. It should be made the prime duty of the army to report all the activities done on the borderline every hour to the Militar y Head Quarters so that any danger should be prevented before the eleventh hour. He said that the army should be made sole responsible of taking care of borders and they should be made eager to fight for the country. There should be no involvement of the army in social or political affairs of the country. Army should remain in its limits and it should not interfere in the people’s rights or in any of the governmental affairs. People should hold the grip of individualism if there would be any army interference in the public, social or political issues of the country. The next argument of Wilson was that the Senate should be made independent. This is no way that the smallest decision of the Senate should be first cleared by the President and then by the Senate body.If in case of an emergency there is no contact within the President then what will the Senate do? It will wait until there is any contact. He said that if a body has been created to take decisions then it should be ma de so independent to make decision of people within the state. He said that he would discourage the system of this new constitution. He also said that the President should be made aware of the decisions but it should not be like that every decision made by the Senate first needs an approval from the President and then it is forwarded to the people. In this way we would be making an excellent type of dependent and ill-fated government where the Senate and government high-ups are so dependent of each other that they could not even make emergency decision to solve the problems of the state. The next accuse he put on was that the State governments should be brought to a smaller extent. He said that there should be corporations to decide what should be done and what should not be. He argued that people should be made point of attraction and views. He said that the common view of people of wise should be rendered upon the state. There should be one corporation in every state, which will wor k accordingly, if there is problems in the state or if there is peace all around. He said that the corporations should tell people about their new policies so that more and more wiser decisions should be made. He said that these state corporations should take decisions common in public. However, he also argued that there should be elections for those corporations. The president should be chosen from the common people. There should be no daughter or son case of the high ups. The more wiser and honest citizen should be made the president and it depends on the public to vote for whom. Voting on terror basis should not be counted. At last, he said to his fellow citizens that may this constitution meet the needs of our public. In this speech there is no means of my own personal profit. But through this speech I would like to make you all aware of what would have been done with us if there would be no opinions on this new constitution.I think that this constitution would be hardly in favor of public because it serves all the dishonest actions of the high ups, which are not the way to our bright and glimmering future. Conclusion The conclusion of this article can only be this that James Wilson was a great constitutional and governmental fighter for his people. He supported his public until the last if his life. He always wanted a peaceful Pennsylvania. It was because of his struggle that the people of Pennsylvania were so aware of what was going on with them.It has been centuries for Wilson when he left the world but still he is recognized as one of the bravest leaders. Case Study: Murder by Two Colleges Students Essay

As an intellectual game, two male college students, ages 18 and 19, attempt to commit the â€Å"perfect crime† by kidnapping a young boy and demanding ransom from his parents. They receive the ransom money but kill the boy anyway. Later, they are caught, tried and convicted of murder and kidnapping with intent to do bodily harm. Their defense attorney, a brilliant lawyer, successfully argues against the death penalty and both men are sent to prison for life. After about five years, one of the men is killed in a fight, but the other completes his college education while still in prison and teaches other convicts English. He also volunteers for medical experiments, allowing himself to be injected with malaria germs in order to test new drugs. A model prisoner, he causes no trouble throughout his entire prison term. After about 30 years, he is paroled, whereupon he goes to a different country and continues to teach English. Two years later he dies of natural causes. Should this man have been subjected to capital punishment? Why or why not Theories that will be applied: 1. Divine Command Theory 2. Virtue Ethics 3. Utilitarianism Capital punishment has been and will always be a widely debated topic. The biggest question that surrounds capital punishment would be is it morally right or is it morally wrong? There are many arguments for and against capital punishment. Is a capital punishment really a deterent as some would say? I will apply and test three theories to the case mentioned above to see if capital punishment is the most appropriate solution or not. First I will examine the divine command theory and see how it applies to the case mentioned above. In all fairness I must say that in the case mentioned above the divine command theory is strongly contradicting itself. How is that possible? Well let us start by saying that the divine command theory uses Gods commandments to measure whether something is morally right or wrong. How is that contradicting? Speaking in the case of most major religions God asks us to punish those who commit intentional murder by death. At the same time God asks us to be forgiving. Even with this major contradiction we can safely say that the divine command theory would revoke the capital  punishment in the case mentioned above. Such a controversial conclusion can be easily proved. We can also safely say that forgiveness outweighs punishment in the eyes of God. We all know that God is the most forgiving and the most merciful. How do we know that? Lets take any human being as an example. There is no doubt that there is no human being in the world without sin. If God really preferred to punish us rather than forgive us for every sin we make then life would be a little different. Instead God waits for us and gives us a chance to repent so he can forgive us. Therefore in the case above it is clear for us all to see that the individual mentioned in the case above has committed to repentance and most importantly he is not the same man who entered the first time into prison. In conclusion the divine command theory would demand us to forgive the man and give him a chance after all that time he served in prison Now we come to the theory of virtue ethics. Without any argument or hesitation we can say that virtue ethics rejects capital punishment in all of its forms. Virtue ethics instead demands for a moderate solution. It considers capital punishment to be cruel and counter productive. Virtue ethics works towards making someone a better person and reinstate in them true and honorable virtues. How are you going to that if someone is dead? Some might say that there is a long time before a death sentence is carried out and there is enough time for that person to change and try to be a better person. Well that is definitely not the case here. That is similar to saying to a student we are going to let you in to college but when you are done we are not going to give you a college degree. You are telling him that he can work hard but he cannot harvest his fruit. No Matter how good we may try to make it sound it is extremely unreasonable to expect someone who is sentenced to death to commit to change without giving them some sort of hope. On the other hand when there is a little hope, a little light at the end of the tunnel, then we can say that we have done our part in the eyes of the virtue ethicist. Last but not least we come to utilitarianism. First we must understand utilitarian’s argue for the best possible outcome or the solution that would promote the greatest happiness and least suffering. In the scenario above utilitarian’s would also reject the death sentence. We can simply start off by asking how do two deaths or three deaths create more happiness? It is just unreasonable. There are other ways of punishment one can use for the crime committed above other than  capital punishment that are greater promoters than the death sentence would ever b e. To promote the greatest happiness in the scenario above is to give the inmate a chance to reform and repent and have a good influence or impact on society. In the balance that will always outweigh capital punishment. In my opinion, capital punishment is the best possible outcome for the scenario mentioned above. First let me start by saying that the punishment should fit the crime. The person mentioned above committed the most extreme crime known to man and therefore deserves a punishment equal in magnitude. Second I will without hesitation state that everyone fears death. Being so the case then capital punishment would be the best deterrent and preventative of crime man can employ. Then I will go on to mention that by committing intentional murder one has stepped outside the line that divides us from animals, there for no longer deserves to live among us. Then let us examine the case of the life sentence. It is very evident that one who is sentenced to life in prison has nothing to loose and is more likely to commit more crimes even inside prison. Summarizing all this up I stand by position as being a advocate for capital punishment in the case mentioned above and any other there is to come.

In what ways has the fashion blog changed fashion journalism Essay

In what ways has the fashion blog changed fashion journalism - Essay Example The contemporary society which is characterized by the application of information and communication technology in various economic, social and political activities has found increasing use of the internet in the communication of fashion. The advent of the internet has contributed greatly to fashion journalism as facilitated by fashion blogs and websites. This paper gives a critical analysis and discussion of fashion journalism in relation to the fashion blog and how it has transformed fashion journalism. Traditionally fashion journalism involved the presentation of fashion designs by writer and publishers in books. Magazines and newspaper were also common print forms of fashion journalism. Craik (1997) points out that with the advent of computer and their application in communication via the innovative internet application, fashion websites and blogs have become the most common media through which fashion journalism is being perpetuated and communicated to the audience. Magazines and newspapers are also significantly used in the modern fashion journalism to communicate images and messages on fashion. However the internet is the most preferred media for fashion journalism. Blood (2002) explains that fashion blogs are preferred in fashion journalism because of their effectiveness in passing information on fashion to the audience. Additionally, fashion blogs provide a means through which fashion writers and producers would reach a great audience. This is because of the nature of the in ternet in providing global reach for information on fashion. With the evolution of fashion journalism, its production has also changed significantly over the years. Independent Fashion Bloggers (2012) demonstrate that the traditional production of fashion images and messages by writer involved writing of scripts on fashion which were published through long processes of book production. The production of fashion images involved black and white images which

LGBT Community in the workplace Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 7000 words

LGBT Community in the workplace - Research Paper Example Early in the morning hours of Saturday, June 28, 1969, plainclothes officers and uniformed patrolmen from the New York City Police Department’s Public Morals Squad raided the Stonewall Inn, a popular but illegal gay bar in Greenwich Village. The raid sparked several days of demonstrations and clashes with police, ranging in intensity from passive to confrontational. The demonstrations culminated in the first gay pride’s march from Washington Square Park to Central Park (Teal, 2010). The riots that followed the Stonewall Inn event are regarded as the beginning of the transformation of gay rights movement. Since then, the gay rights movement evolved into a controversial and powerful social and political force in today’s society. In 1973, the American Psychiatric Association removed homosexuality from its official list of mental disorders. In January 1978, Harvey Milk, an openly gay man, was sworn in as a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. Mr. Milk’s first feat was to sponsor a bill that would outlaw sexual orientation discrimination. The same year in the month of November, Mayor George Moscone and Harvey Milk were assassinated by Dan White, another member of the board who recently resigned and who wanted back in. (www.infoplease.com) After 40 years of fighting, political leaders are embracing the movement and are knocking down walls such as lifting the ban on participation in the Armed Forces and legalizing gay marriage in support of what has evolve to be the LGBT community. The evolution of the movement has had such a tremendous influence in the political arena that it has led to â€Å"nominating at least two transgender officials, for the first time in history, to senior posts in the federal government under the Obama administration† (Teal, 2010). The intensity of homophobia in America has led to many gays being viewed as mentally ill in medical terms, sinners in religious terms and criminals in legal terms. Gays have

Final exam - Assignment Example Temin, further, argues against the efficiency of slave farming; as they argued that slaves were more efficient as compared to free white farmers (Temin et al. 739-783). a). Business unionism refers to trade-consciousness, where there is advocating for simple and pure trade-based union formation, as opposed to revolutionary or class-based union formation. In this case, the business unions are run like business ventures. On the other hand, class-conscious unionism refers to the labor unionization efforts that identify the class struggle existing between the different levels of the employees within the labor category (Fusfeld 3-23). b). Fusfeld talks of the period before 1918, as a time when labor radicalism and demand for changes was repressed by employers, working cooperatively with state and local governments – as well as court authorities. In other cases the national government came in to repress the attempts to bring about social change to the capitalistic model (Fusfeld 3-23). c). The new relationships between capitalist and workers become characteristic with class lines, where the workers were not asking for favors from the capitalistic model, but worked squarely on the basis of the class struggle. Here, the workers defiantly challenged the capitalist class – as a result of the awakening, to pursue class and better victory and living standards (Fusfeld 3-23). d). Engagement in unionization fosters political association on the basis of class – where it increases the workers’ political engagement, as well as the development of a distinctive work-based character. As a result, the erosion of unions leads to a decline in working class-based politics (Fusfeld 3-23). a).The institutionalist approach to looking at economics, places the focus on comprehending the role of the progressive process and the effect of organizations in influencing economic behavior. The approach views institutions in a
